All Things Chocolate & Sweet at Leura.

Rather surreal to be driving up to Leura & finding a giant teapot & teacups on the road in front of me, especially as I was listening to the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy at the time. There were other rides up ahead so I realised they were actually part of some circus or fair moving to the next town. It was amazingly compact with the pot in the middle & the cups folded up by it’s side. Quite a challenge for them to get up Lapstone Hill.       Wish I’d got a picture!

At the top end of the Mall at Leura is Josophan’s Chocolate Boutique, while on the other side further down the hill is Cafe Madeline where I stopped for a little something before walking the Leura section of the Prince Henry’s Cliff Walk. The scones here aren’t cheap, but their specialty is scones with dried cranberries & Belgian chocolate chips topped with cinnamon sugar. You need to have a sweet tooth or possibly share them between 2. They’re fine, but a bit too sweet for me, but others were enjoying them, quite happily today. The Strawberry, Raspberry & Tahitian Vanilla Bean jam is excellent & available for sale at the cafe.

After walking many kilometres, I have at times treated myself to the Belgian waffles with strawberries & ice cream. Yum. Others, (especially the males) prefer the tasty Gourmet Pot Pies with beef, potato & mushroom cooked in Guiness.

High tea ia also available and includes open sandwiches, their scones, petit fours & some of their chocolates. Probably great for real chocolate lovers. I just like a little chocolate, not too much, so I’ll just visit the chocky shop.  Venturing up the hill, I was soon working off those calories as I came to Josophan’s chocolates. Sounds like a bit of strange logic, perhaps. My favourites are the milk chocolate bar, coconut roughs & the dark chocolate callets (buttons) for making hot chocolate at home. Just heat up the milk & when it’s boiling pour a little on top of the callets in the bottom of your cup, let it sit a minute or two so it melts them, then give it a good mix and add the rest of your milk. Voila! If you prefer, there’s also The Candy Store for all sorts of sweets at the back of the Strand Arcade opposite Madelines. Kids of all ages love it!

Now we’re suitably fortified, it’s time to visit the Leura Cascades & continue on this section of the Prince Henry Cliff Walk.
